- A Nigerian lawyer has attracted widespread attention for advising people not to run away or disrupt the scene if their partner dies suddenly at home.
- He warned that running or altering evidence could lead to suspicion and legal trouble, urging police and legal counsel to be notified immediately.

A Nigerian lawyer has sparked widespread reactions on social media after sharing blunt legal advice on what to do if your partner dies suddenly at home.
In a viral TikTok video, lawyers warned that panicking and fleeing the scene could irreversibly damage a person’s life, even if they are completely innocent. According to him, running away would immediately arouse suspicion and make it difficult to prove one’s innocence.
“Don’t run. If you run, you will automatically be presumed guilty and it will be very difficult to prove your innocence.” he said.
Once a person escapes a situation, law enforcement is more likely to find him or her guilty of wrongdoing, complicating the legal process, the attorney explained.
He also warned against tampering with the scene, stressing that individuals should never touch bodies, remove blood or wipe any surfaces. He noted that changing the scene could easily be interpreted as an attempt to destroy evidence and could result in serious legal consequences, including jail time.
He stressed the importance of acting quickly and recommended contacting the police immediately after an incident. He further urged individuals to call a lawyer immediately after notifying police and warned against speaking out under pressure.
According to him, if the police arrive in front of the lawyer, only a statement is required.
“She passed away and I reported it immediately. That’s it. Don’t say anything else unless your attorney is present.” he added.
The video has since sparked heated debate online, with many Nigerians calling the advice disturbing but necessary.
