The Nigerian Air Force explained that the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal, on Sunday accompanied President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Minister of Defense, General Christopher Guabin Musa to Turkey as part of ongoing efforts to address security challenges in Nigeria.
The Director of Public Relations and Information of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said in a statement that the high-level working visit to Ankara underscores the federal government’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s defense posture, deepening international partnerships and accelerating defense modernization.
The statement said President Tinubu held bilateral talks with his Turkish counterpart, focusing on translating common interests into concrete results. These collaborations resulted in the signing of nine memorandums of understanding (MoUs) covering defence, trade, education, media, technology and other areas.
The Nigerian Air Force said the agreements will improve Nigeria’s access to advanced technologies, facilitate skills transfer and support long-term national security and development goals.
Commenting on the visit, Defense Minister Christopher Guabin Moussa said the engagement reflected the President’s determination to combat terrorism, banditry, insurgency and other security threats. He noted that the government is committed to equipping the armed forces with the right partnerships, capabilities and technologies to enhance operational effectiveness.
As part of defense cooperation, the Air Force Chief of Staff and Defense Minister visited major Turkish defense companies, including ASELSAN, Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) and HAVELSAN. These visits enable the Nigerian Air Force to review existing procurement arrangements, increase training opportunities, improve maintenance and sustainment support, and enhance capacity building within the Nigerian Armed Forces.
