    • Former Senator Dino Melaye criticized Nigeria’s leadership in a video released abroad.
    • The video shows Melaye driving a limousine through a scenic location.
    • He expressed disappointment with developments in Nigeria compared to what he observed overseas.

Former senator Dino Melaye, who represents Kogi West, has been widely criticized online after posting a video abroad in which he drove a limousine through scenic locations while making remarks against the Nigerian leader.

In the video, Melaye expressed his frustration with Nigeria’s current situation and contrasted it with the level of development he saw overseas. He called for a country that holds corrupt officials accountable and holds capable leaders accountable.

He wrote, “Look at the country, God help us build a real nation where our evil leaders will be in jail and the right people will be in power. Nigeria must be fixed. Yes we can.”

However, his comments sparked a backlash on social media, with many questioning his own record in public office. Critics highlighted that despite budget allocations for projects, his constituency reportedly remained underdeveloped during his tenure.

Some users also reminded the public that Melaye had switched parties in the past, benefiting from the same system he now denounces. Others believe he himself could face scrutiny if Nigeria enforces stricter laws, suggesting his calls for reform lack credibility.

Many netizens mocked the contrast between his lavish lifestyle abroad and his criticism of Nigeria’s leaders. Observers accuse him of enjoying wealth and privilege while ordinary citizens face daily struggles, noting that politicians often speak out against corruption only after leaving office.

For most Nigerian netizens, Melaye’s post was another example of former leaders remotely criticizing the system, leaving the public to bear the consequences even as they once profited from it.

    Netizens react…

@DanielRegha: “What did you build during your time in power? Let’s look at your achievements as a former senator and member of the House of Representatives? Didn’t you also flee to the APC?”

@YakoRhals: “I’m sure if Nigeria were China, you wouldn’t be alive today. People like you only work for your stomach, not Nigeria. You are just sitting in the gallery, making people at home think you want to do the good of the country, but anyone with eyesight will see the lack of sincerity in your words. Your actions do not match your words.”

@KabassaMohawk: “The irony of this tweet! Egbon Dino!! Fear God now! You are a two-term Representative! Senator! Please show me some of your district projects while in office! I swear, if I don’t show you good projects, you will not be okay!”

@AyanbisiAT: “Look at the complaints Dino Melaye Dey is making to his constituents and the people of Nigeria. If your false prayers for the country are answered, you should be in jail.”

@OfficiaEdoOsasB: “The irony runs deep. Dino, who just a few years ago was a senator, collecting generous perks and commissioning substandard projects, is now parading around Dubai calling other leaders ‘evil’ and should be jailed. Once they lose power (or get out of the ring of robbery), suddenly they become born-again patriots. Classic playbook for Nigerian politicians: chop, clean mouth, then shout ‘corruption’ from abroad”

@uglyfreak077: “Nigerian politicians become conscious once they leave public office and start distinguishing between good and bad. This statement of yours is the height of hypocrisy. You are a big part of the problem sir. While your agitation and support to the masses is well known, what about the corruption that is happening under your nose? What if you spoke out Come on, maybe we will be in a better situation now because you have the love and trust of the people. Even now, if you cannot change or influence everyone, you can at least start with your community, but instead you choose to fill your house with expensive cars, sir, I don’t think you have the moral right to say that, SDM.”

@Idara47: “This is coming from you, you stole our federation, flaunted your cars and frivolity in front of us, God will judge you, now you are in the land of another man enjoying our collective resources, he built a working system for his people, my God punish you, Mr. Dino Melaye, for gaslighting Nigerians”
