- APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda has dismissed rumors linking him with President Tinubu’s 2027 running mate position, insisting that there are no discussions within the party on replacing Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has refuted reports that he has been selected as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking in an interview politics today Ilvada described the rumors on the TV channel as false, baseless and misleading. He also dismissed speculation that the ruling party was considering ousting Vice President Qasim Shettima, insisting such claims were baseless.
“That’s not true. No one is discussing anything about the vice presidential issue,” Ylvada said.
He said conversations around a vice presidential candidate could only happen after the party wraps up its presidential primaries. Discussions about choosing a running mate can only begin once a presidential candidate emerges, he explained.
“The issue of candidacy arises after the primaries. After that, the parties and candidates will sit down to select and nominate a running mate,” he said.
Yilwatda added that the rumors were spread by opposition elements to distract the APC, stressing that no such discussions had taken place within the party.
“I laughed when I heard the news. There was no such thing. There was no discussion,” he added.
He further noted that he had earlier advised APC appointees and elected officials not to make public comments on Vice Presidential affairs, warning that such speculation would only create unnecessary tension.
