Senator Ali Ndum has strongly criticized the recent increase in electricity prices, calling it unfair and unconstitutional.
The senator passionately expressed his outrage at discrimination in the electricity billing system, particularly the classification of consumers into A, B and C classes. He said the sudden increase in tariffs has added to the suffering of Nigerians who are already struggling financially.
Ndum accused the power minister of being arbitrary, saying the electricity price increase was as if the power sector was a private enterprise. He stressed that public officials have a responsibility to protect citizens and speak out when policies have a negative impact on people.
“Don’t make me sit down, people are suffering. There has been a sudden hike in power prices. The entire A, B, C bands are discriminatory and unconstitutional. The power minister is just increasing power prices as if he owns the company. It is our responsibility to keep people in line,” he said.
His comments added to a growing public debate over the cost of electricity and the impact of rising tariffs on ordinary Nigerians.
