Popular comedian, Deacon Famous, real name Udaya Awesome Chidiebere, has opened up about his long-standing feud with his former close friend, Ekene Umenwa.
The friendship reportedly ended last year, with the pair unfollowing each other on social media after fans noticed the tension during Deacon Famous’ wedding.
In a detailed video that went viral, the comedian shared his side of the story, claiming that Umunwa disrupted his wedding through vendors she recommended. He also warned that if she denied his claims, he was prepared to release WhatsApp chats to corroborate his claims.
Deacon Famous revealed that he supported Umenwa during her wedding and even helped her gain social media attention and covered part of her wedding expenses. While he said he had forgiven her, he wanted to set the record straight after his wife, who was described as “innocent”, was involved in the dispute.
He recounted a visit to Umenwa’s home with his then-fiancée, where Umenwa allegedly said negative things about someone whose birthday she had celebrated earlier. It was later rumored that Deacon Famous was responsible for the remarks, but he denied this. He confronted Umungwa and her mother reportedly apologized on her behalf.
Deacon Famous further claimed that as Umenwa was preparing for her wedding, he sent her a script but she requested that the project be postponed until after the ceremony. Even after her marriage, she allegedly delayed the project multiple times until the date was finalized.
He also revealed that he transported 13 people from Lagos to Asaba for the project and booked a hotel for them but Umenwa failed to show up. Her husband later explained that she had other things to do. Deacon Famous said his messages and calls went unanswered until she finally apologized, after which they began planning his own wedding.
He added that after they reconciled, Umenwa offered to recommend vendors for his wedding. However, these suppliers allegedly caused further problems, with one designer allegedly delaying the completion of his wife’s wedding dress until the day before the ceremony.
