    • Joe Igbokwe has urged the Lagos State Government to address rising rents, saying landlords have become greedy after tenants protested unreasonable rent increases.
    • His appeal follows protests by frustrated tenants, who took to the streets to complain about sudden and unreasonable rent increases by landlords and housing agents.

APC Chairman, Joe Igbokwe has called on the Lagos State Government to urgently intervene in what he described as uncontrolled and unreasonable increases in house rents across the state.

His appeal follows protests by frustrated tenants, who took to the streets to complain about sudden and unreasonable rent increases by landlords and housing agents.

During the protest, demonstrators held placards with the following message: “We’ve had enough”, “We say no to exorbitant rents” and”Rent increases should be regulated. “

Reacting to the situation in a post shared on his Facebook page, Igbokwe accused many Lagos landlords of being greedy, saying they have little or no compassion for their tenants despite widespread economic hardship.

He urged the state government to step in and regulate rent increases to protect residents from exploitation.

He wrote, “Government needs to act quickly to put an end to greedy landlords, especially in Lagos. There is no control anymore. Landlords are forcing Nigerians to steal just to rent a house.

“Landlords in Lagos are something else. They are greedy, ruthless, vicious, have no empathy, no mercy and so on.

“They are charging exorbitant rents from houses built in 1970. LASG can act quickly to address this scourge. It is killing businesses. It is inhumane. It is causing Lagosians to steal.”
