- Carter Efe has revealed that he no longer attends church because of concerns that some pastors develop friendships with members just to get money.
- His comments sparked mixed reactions online, with some agreeing and others accusing him of generalizing about religious leaders.

Nigerian sketch producer and singer Carter Efe has opened up about why he no longer goes to church, citing distrust of some pastors.
In a video that went viral, the entertainer alleged that certain religious leaders developed close relationships with church members and later began asking for financial assistance for personal needs.
Explaining his fears, he said:
“The pastor will call you in the afternoon and evening to show your love. Before you know it, the pastor will be telling you, ‘Can you give me money for fuel?’ Before you know it, the pastor will be telling you, ‘I want to cook beans, I need oil.’ Before you know it, the pastor will be raising money for you, which is why I fear your church. So why am I not worried about you going to see them.
His comments quickly sparked mixed reactions on social media. While some users agreed with his concerns, others criticized him for generalizing about religious leaders.
One user @sasmanic wrote: “They will bill you until you go bankrupt, as long as you live abroad or have money, then this Naija pastor will set up shop for you and the bankrupt members will argue on the comments.”
Another @BIG_DINERO37 commented: “Abii na go to open churches, mosques and shrines to collect money and kid goats.”
@Johzbohz commented: “The worst thing is that pastors will come out and lie and say you gave them gifts and that God spoke to you and asked you to buy them those luxuries.”
However, @AbigailAidela offered a different perspective, writing: “Teach them to send you, don’t be friends with pastors.”
