    • Nigerian musician Vic O, whose real name is Victor Ncha Odu, is currently in detention.
    • A video of him expressing his anguish in detention has circulated online.
    • He has been detained since before Valentine’s Day.

Nigerian musician Victor Ncha Odu, popularly known as Vic O, has appealed for help after a video showing him being detained surfaced online.

In the clip, the singer, songwriter and rapper, who lost his parents several years ago, appears distressed as he talks about his situation. Vic O revealed that he was detained ahead of Valentine’s Day and is scheduled to appear in court in Calabar on Monday, February 16, 2026. However, he did not disclose the reason for his detention.

In the video’s caption, he urged fans to help him, explaining that he couldn’t afford bail. The “afterparty” artist, who was shirtless as he spoke to the camera from behind the bars of his cell, included his bank account details in the post, asking for financial support to secure his release.

The video sparked a range of reactions from fans, with many questioning the circumstances of his arrest and why he had not come clean about his alleged crimes. One fan humorously recalled one of Vic O’s lyrics, joking about why he wanted to get out of detention given his past lines: If rap was a crime, he should be in jail for it because he’s not ready to stop making music.

This is not the first time a Nigerian artist has found himself in trouble while in detention. A few weeks ago, street pop star Habeeb Olalomi, popularly known as “Portable,” was recorded crying in custody after initially resisting arrest. Likewise, last year musician Speed Darlington was detained for alleged defamation, allegedly involving Burna Boy.

@bissiriyu: “There’s no way he doesn’t know why he was arrested, unless he wanted to prank him on it.”

@William19Prisca: “If it’s because of his music then they should sentence him to 12-15 years in prison.”

@LarxEze: “My old self would have thought this was impossible, but I guess I’ve seen this happen before, imagine arresting him before taking offense against him.”
