Mama Pi went viral after criticizing Nigeria’s boycott of the electronic transmission of election results and questioning why leaders appeared reluctant despite wielding major political power.

A social media personality popularly known as “Mama Pee” has sparked reactions online as she expresses anger over the ongoing controversy surrounding the electronic transmission of election results in Nigeria.

In a widely seen video, she criticized political leaders and institutions, questioning why the adoption of full electronic transmission seemed to face resistance despite what she said was the ruling party’s broad control of key government agencies.

“You have governors, you have the National Assembly, you have the Inspector General of Police, you have the army, even a branch of the Independent National Electoral Commission now belongs to the All Progressives Congress, but you are afraid of free and fair elections. Are you crazy? This is crazy,” she says in the video.

Her comments come as the country debates election reform, transparency,

“You have 30 governors, you have the National Assembly, you have the Inspector General of Police, you have the military, even a branch of INEC now belongs to the APC, but you are afraid of free and fair elections, are you m@d? This is so m@dness”

In other news… Abubakar Muhammad Tahir, the MP representing Gusau Mayana district, has reportedly distributed bags of charcoal and locally made irons to residents as part of a so-called empowerment programme.

According to Nasarawa Daily News, the items were given to the beneficiaries to help them start petty trade and small businesses relying on charcoal and charcoal irons. The outreach is said to be specifically targeting voters within Mayana district.

The development sparked mixed reactions online, with some defending the gesture as practical support for low-income residents while others criticized it as insufficient and lacking long-term impact.

The initiative also adds to the model of similar empowerment programs for public officials across Nigeria. In May 2024, Rufai Hanga reportedly distributed thousands of pieces of white cloth material and clay pots to voters in Kano Central Senatorial District.

Earlier in March 2024, Alex Mascot Ikwechegh shared stoves and other household items with residents of Abia State as part of an empowerment campaign.
