Nigerian government approves £4 billion start-up grant for Bola Tinubu Polytechnic, Abuja

The Federal Government has approved start-up grants of N2 billion each for the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic, Abuja, and the Federal University of Technology, Epe, Epe, Lagos State, as part of efforts to support their early operations.

Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa disclosed this on Thursday during the inauguration of key officials appointed to lead the two institutions, Arise News reported.

Inductees include Professor Nosiru Onibon, who will serve as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the Federal Polytechnic, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Abuja; Professor Adeola Oshikoya, who has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe; and Dr. Angela Ajala, who serves as the Executive Secretary of the National Council of Colleges of Education.

Alausa, while handing over his appointment letter in Abuja, said the newly established institution is part of the federal government’s efforts to expand access to higher education and strengthen Nigeria’s science, technology and innovation capabilities.

“Every child in this country deserves access to the highest quality education commensurate with global standards. Appointees are carefully selected based on their record of service and achievements in Nigeria’s educational institutions.

“Giving is much and expectations are high. You were chosen out of millions of Nigerians to serve your country and this recognition extends to your families as well,” the minister said.

He noted that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is committed to building a stronger education system capable of producing the technical talent needed for national development.

According to the minister, the N2 billion take-off grants approved for each institution are intended to help schools establish basic administrative and academic structures as they begin operations.

Alausa urged the newly appointed officials to provide strong leadership to shape the image and long-term growth of the institution.

He said the Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe, and the Polytechnic, Abuja, were strategically located to fully exploit the economic potential and human resources of the two regions.

The minister added that these institutions are expected to focus on technological innovation, renewable energy, climate change response, disaster risk management and other research areas relevant to national development.

He also congratulated Ajala on his appointment as NCCE Executive Secretary and emphasized the importance of teacher education to the development of the country’s education system.
