Nigerians can relocate to 8 countries with free food and money

As many countries grapple with aging populations and shrinking rural communities, governments and local authorities are increasingly introducing incentives to attract new residents and stimulate economic activity.

From financial grants to housing support and business funding, the measures aim to reverse population decline and revitalize sparsely populated areas.

According to a Forbes report and cited by PUNCH Online on Friday, eight countries currently offer relocation incentives

1. Italy

Italy remains one of the most prominent examples. In regions such as Calabria, Sardinia and Puglia, small towns facing population decline are offering grants of up to €30,000 to individuals willing to relocate and start a business. The country has also attracted global attention with its nominal €1 housing scheme, although buyers are usually required to renovate the property within a set period of time.

2.Switzerland

In Switzerland, the Alpine village of Albinen launched one of Europe’s most publicized relocation plans. To attract younger residents, the village offers subsidies of around CHF 25,000 per adult and CHF 10,000 per child to families who commit to living there for at least 10 years and investing in property. The initiative aims to maintain the long-term viability of the community.

3. Japan

Japan is grappling with a major demographic challenge as rural areas continue to lose residents to urban centers. The authorities have introduced subsidies to encourage families to move from big cities such as Tokyo to small towns. Some programs provide up to 1 million yen per child, as well as additional support for housing and business development, to revitalize declining areas.

4. Spain

Similarly, Spain has experimented with a range of incentives to breathe life into rural communities. In regions such as Asturias and Galicia, authorities and private groups offer housing support, relocation grants and employment opportunities to attract families and entrepreneurs to aging towns.

5.Greece

In Greece, targeted programs mainly target island communities with declining populations. On the island of Antikythera, for example, families were provided with housing, land, and a monthly stipend to encourage long-term settlement as part of a wider effort to maintain a small, remote population.

6.Ireland

Ireland has also launched initiatives under its Islands of Our Living strategy. The scheme provides financial assistance to renovate vacant or derelict homes on remote islands, with the aim of reversing population decline and stimulating local development.

7. Croatia

In Croatia, smaller cities are offering housing subsidies and financial support to individuals willing to buy and renovate homes in rural areas. Combined with the country’s growing digital nomad visa program, these efforts make Croatia increasingly attractive to remote workers.

Chile

Chile has a different approach to entrepreneurs. Through initiatives like Start-Up Chile, founders can gain access to capital and support to launch their businesses, helping to attract global talent while promoting innovation and economic activity.
