Chelsea have upped the ante in women’s football with their latest signing setting a new transfer record.

English football giants Chelsea are confirmed to have set a new transfer record in women’s football history following the announcement of their latest player signing.

The unveiling and confirmation of Chelsea’s signing of Naomi Gilma saw the club achieve one of the greatest feats in women’s football history as they officially became the first and only club to pay over €1 million to a female player.

Who is the most expensive player in women’s football history?

Naomi Gilma’s move to Chelsea is a landmark moment for her and women’s football as a whole.

Naomi Girma became the most expensive player in the history of women’s football with a record-breaking transfer fee of 1.04 million euros ($1.1 million).

The transfer marks a major shift in the landscape of women’s football, with major clubs now willing to invest heavily in top female talent.

Chelsea’s decision to sign Gilma underlines their commitment to building a strong squad capable of performing in the Women’s Super League and Champions League.

Gilma, who previously played for the San Diego Waves and has become a key figure in the U.S. women’s soccer team, has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with Chelsea to begin a new journey.

Her honors include being named the 2023 U.S. Soccer Female Athlete of the Year.

Team USA head coach Emma Hayes even described her as “Best defender I’ve ever seen.
