President Trump approved the emergency HIV treatment for Nigeria and other 55 other countries.
Nigerian News Nalin It is reported that the U.S. government has granted emergency humanitarian exemption to maintain the US -funded HIV treatment plan in 55 countries/regions including Nigeria.
This is a recent administrative order after President Donald Trump executed the command, and the order stopped foreign aid funds from developing countries. As a result, the U.S. State Department suspended the payment of President AIDS Emergency Plan (PEPFAR).
PEPFAR currently provides HIV for more than 20 million people around the world, including 566,000 children under 15 years of age.
In order to cope with exemption, the United Nations AIDS/AIDS Joint Program (Unaids) stated relief and emphasized that the decision ensures continued use of millions of key drugs.
The statement said: “The United Nations AIDS Planning Agency welcomes this exemption from the US government, which ensures that during the assessment of US foreign development assistance, millions of people infected with HIV can continue to receive drugs that save lives.”
