Hundreds of women were R@Ped after Rwanda-backed insurgents rushed into the Congolese city of Goma, and then burned down Aliv. The atrocities occurred during a massive escape from Munsenzi Prison last week as M23 fighters clashed with Congolese troops during the deadly gunfight. According to the United Nations, in a notoriously overcrowded prison, female prisoners slaughtered their wings after men forced into it and rushed. Vivian Van de Perre, deputy head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Goma, said that while thousands of male criminals managed to escape, the areas reserved for women were burned down.

On Monday, the rebel group announced a ceasefire that will be held on Tuesday for “humanitarian reasons.” The UN had previously said nearly 2,900 people were injured during the uprising, and local estimates showed that more than 2,000 were killed. Members of M23 are known as the “Congo River Alliance” Rebel Group Alliance, which has previously accused the Congo military of using aircraft to bomb the K it holds! lling people.
