Nigeria prices for .NG domains rose 86%: This is the new price for 2025

If you have a website in Nigeria or plan to register for a .NG domain, you may have noticed a significant price increase.

As of February 1, 2025, the Nigerian Internet Registration Association (NIRA) has implemented new domain pricing, resulting in an increase of 86% and 3-level domains and a 200% increase in the second-level .ng domain.

There is no doubt that such price increases will have a significant impact on individuals and businesses in Nigeria.

    .NG domain price increase explains

Nira is the official registry of .NG domain names, and has recently raised the domain price as follows:

    • Second-level .ng domains (e.g. Yourbrand.ng) add 86
    • Level 3 .ng domains (e.g. YourBrand.com.ng, YourBrand.org.ng) increased by 200%

This means that if you have a .ng domain, you are now paying more for renewal and new registration. Most domain name registrars, including Whogohost (now GO54.com), Domainking.ng, have adjusted their prices accordingly.

Note that these .ng domain prices may change and may not reflect the post-erosion rate of .NG domains.

Why is the price of the .ng domain rising?

The .NG domain price increase was implemented by the Nigerian Internet Registration Agency (NIRA) to ensure the sustainability and growth of the .ng domain ecosystem.

Here is a breakdown of possible factors that may lead to the decision:

Increased operating costs: Maintaining a domain registry requires a significant investment in technology, security and management.

Maintain infrastructure and services: NIRA needs to invest in maintaining and upgrading infrastructure that supports .ng domain name systems. This includes things like servers, security measures and customer support. Rising prices helps fund these ongoing operating costs.

Keep up with industry standards: The domain name industry continues to develop, and new technologies and security threats will appear regularly. NIRA may need to raise prices to keep up with these changes and ensure that the .ng domain system remains competitive and secure in the global market.

Inflation and economic factors: Rising service costs in Nigeria have led to the need to adjust domain pricing.

As it is now effective, domain owners must develop strategies for management costs, especially when having multiple domains.

How to buy .ng domain in Nigeria

If you still want to register a .ng domain despite the price increase, follow these steps:

Select a domain name registrar: Select a well-known domain name registrar in Nigeria, which has been recognized by NIRA.

Check the availability of the domain: Use the domain registrar’s search tool to check if the domain name you want is available.

Select the registration period: Select the required registration period for your domain (for example, 1 year, 2 years, 5 years).

Provide contact information: Provide accurate contact information, including your name, email address and phone number.

Choose a payment method: Choose a convenient payment method such as bank transfer, online payment gateway or mobile currency.

Complete the registration: Complete the registration process and make payment. After the payment is processed, your domain name will be registered and ready to be used.

Connect your domain to your website : If you have a website, update your name server or DNS settings to connect your domain to your hosting account.

    Final idea

The .NG domain price increase has officially taken effect, and website owners in Nigeria must now pay higher fees for domain registration and renewal. Although this is a significant change, businesses and individuals relying on the .NG space will need to adjust their budgets accordingly.

If you already have a .NG domain, consider renewing for years to reduce future costs. If you are registering a new domain, compare prices for different registrars before making a decision.

How do you view the rising prices in the .ng domain? Will it affect your decision to use the .ng domain? Let us know in the comments!
