A Catholic priest was attacked by a “interference gentleman” during a Novena in Washington state and collapsed into chaos on Tuesday, February 4.
The respected priest David Gaines is a narrow-minded pastor at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Spokane Loold, Washington, and he prayed with Bishop Thomas Daly when the man launched an attack.
The attack took place on the second night of Lourdes Novena in the church for healing, a series of nine-day prayers to achieve a feast with Madame Lourdes, healing, peace and patron saint of the sick .
The footage of the church live captures the suspect jumping out of the first row of seats and running towards the altar where the celebrators kneel.
Father Gaines stood up, and the man reached to him and slammed him in the face.
The unidentified attacker fell on the floor and Gaines jumped onto him and conquered the man.
The two wrestled for a few seconds before church staff and other believers arrived at the pastor’s help.
One of the microphones picked up a witness and told the attacker to “calm down.”
“It’s okay, buddy, it’s okay, it’s okay,” the voice added.
Principal Rev. Darrin Connall, who had been praying at the time of the attack, called for safety as the man’s screams echoed throughout the cathedral.
When Connor returned to his position and prayed for “the uneasy gentleman”, the man was handcuffed by several men in attendance and was taken out of the cathedral.
At the end of the service, Connor thanked those who “attacked the sanctuary” for helping the priest.
He also informed his countrymen that the man was arrested and charged with assault and trespassing.
Gaines received no harm during the attack, and no one was injured.
“Father Gaines and Bishop Daly both did a good job. Thank you for all your concerns and thank you for joining us today’s Novena again,” the church wrote on Facebook.
“Whatever his motivation is, it’s not good, so we have the will of heaven or ironic Krem these days and all of this.
On Wednesday night, February 5, the celebrators all returned to the cathedral, and on the third night of prayer, Connor briefly spoke of the attack.
“We were fine, we were a little shaken last night, but today helped, and it was an unsettling event last night.”
Connall playfully laughed at the fun after Gaines and suggested he wear bandages like a President Trump after his July 2024 assassination attempt.
“I asked Father Gaines to handle it with the bandage on his ears tonight, and I will do it, but Father Gaines has more integrity,” the pastor said, laughing at the audience.
The man is reportedly expected to appear in court on Thursday, February 6.
The power of the attack was not disclosed.
