    Visible publisher Kolawole talks about the feasibility of AI-breaking journalism

    Kolawole gave a speech on Wednesday, February 5 at the Nigerian Academy of Journalism (NIJ) Monthly Professional Forum (NIJ) Monthly Professional Forum (NIJ) in Ogba, Lagos.

    The program is themed “Journalism in the Age of AI” to help journalists train journalists to understand how to use AI effectively while maintaining ethical standards and human creativity in its reports.

    “AI is changing the way news is created, shared and consumed. But if journalists are open to constant learning, the industry is still viable.”

    He said: “So far, at Thecable, we have not fired any employees for the reason that AI replaces jobs. You just need to build your own capabilities. Media and journalism are a large field with over 200 million viewers in Nigeria. Or Boot your own media outlet or use a large platform that will keep relevant if you read in AI.”

    The use of chatbots and verification tools was discussed extensively in the forum, while Mr. Kolawole emphasized the need to report facts rather than novels.

    Interface meetings allow students to discuss the benefits of using AI in academic work and majors, including the speed of analyzing data, finding errors, and fact checking.

    Kolawole also highlights the drawbacks of using AI, such as lack of exercise of judgment, inability to implement ethics, dangers of theft and misleading trends.

    He mentioned a misleading explanation of the AI-driven explanation of recent news that led social media users to falsely claim that the port of Lagos is not closer to the Atlantic than the planned port of the southeastern Obeaku community, and many subsequent cases .

    To ensure students at the institution’s Provost Mr. Gbenga Adefaye reiterated: “Just as the institution has been doing and will continue to do, we have enhanced the ICT content of the course as the world is driving the ICT content. From similar Things begin.”

    Mr. Adefaye asserted that while the institution may not be able to incorporate AI courses directly into the course, it will continue to meet the requirements of the National Board of Technical Education (NBTE) by integrating sufficient technical content into the training and operational process. The NIJ boss presented Mr. Kolawole with a recognition award and praised his keynote speech.

    NewsOnline Newsonline is held monthly, and the NIJ -Professional Forum is an interface conference that has been integrated into students’ activities to bridge the gap between academia and industry and prepare them for successful careers in journalism and communication.
