The Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) has sealed the Arolat petrol station located on Abeokuta Ayetoro Roundabout Road, allegedly groundwater contamination.
According to Farouk Akintunde, the special counsel for the Governor of Environmental Protection, the action follows a petition filed by the Foursquare Gospel Church next to the petrol station.
The petition claims that the only source of water in the church, a mouthful, was contaminated by the Advanced Sports Spirit (PMS).
Akintunde said the agency’s law enforcement team sealed the gas station and conducted a thorough investigation. The detector will assess the affected area, the extent of pollution, and the current status of the groundwater.
“As a responsive and responsible institution, the safety and well-being of our people are crucial and must not be compromised for any reason,” Akintunde stressed.
The facility will remain sealed until an investigation is conducted.
