The Independent National Election Commission (INEC) has defended its 2025 budget Dutch guild request and noted that it would use Dutch guilds for personnel expenses. INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu made clarifications when defending the 2025 budget proposal ahead of the Joint Electoral Affairs Committee of the National Assembly.
Yakubu explained that despite the increased costs of election operations, the commission’s budget for 2024 is the same as in 2023.
He stressed that not all 12.6 billion guilds will be allocated to the election. “N85 billion guilds are to pay for the staff costs of the INEC this year. So we basically have more than guilds of electoral activities.”
