    Serap drags Tinubu to court

    The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has filed a lawsuit against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for failing to order a lawsuit against the contractor, allegedly from 31 More than 167 billion contractor (MDA) projects were collected from individual ministries, departments and agencies (MDAS).

    Serap revealed in a statement sent to Naija News on Sunday that the federal attorney general and attorney general, Latefeflatief, paid)also listed as the defendant in the case.

    Serap filed a lawsuit in the Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday. Serap asks court orders to force President Tinubu:

    1. Instruct AGF to sue all companies and contractors that receive public funds from projects that have never been executed.

    2. Instruct the Minister of Finance, Olawade Wingspublish the names of all contractors and companies involved in the fraud.

    3. Disclose details of the project, including its location, amount received, and shareholders of the company involved.

    • Large-scale corruption scandals undermine public access to basic services, such as health care and education.
    • Requiring the contractor’s liability will curb waste, fraud and abuse of public funds.
    • The entity that covers up corruption violates the Nigerian Constitution (amended 1999), anti-corruption laws and international obligations under the United Nations Convention on Anti-Corruption.

    Serap stressed that democratic governance in Nigeria depends on public accountability, noting: “Government responsibility to the public is a sign of Nigeria’s pursuit of practical democratic governance. ”

    According to the 2021 annual audit report of the Federal Auditor General released on December 13, 2024, 31 MDA paid 167,592,177,559.40 to companies with unexecuted projects.

    Key points of the report:

    Nigeria bulk electricity plc. (NBET) allegedly paid $100 billion to projects that were never completed alone.

    Nigeria Correctional Services

    Abuja National Pension Commission

    Federal Institute of Land and Resources Technical College, OWERRI

    Hydrocarbon Pollution Rescue Project (HERPREP) Office

    Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF)

    Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development

    Niger State Bida Federal Medical Center

    National Center for Women’s Development

    Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution

    National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB)

    California Federal University

    Niger Delta Affairs Department

    Serap believes transparency is the key to accountability and urges the government to disclose all information related to these fraudulent contracts.

    “Nigerians have the right to govern democratically, influence government decisions and evaluate progress while holding officials accountable,” Serap said.
