EFCC hand over confiscated Nock University property and assets to FG

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has officially transferred the property and assets of the University of Kaduna Kaduna to the federal government.

EFCC Chairman Ola Olukayode handed over the agency’s documents to the Minister of Education at an event attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Vice President of the Presidential Villa of Abuja. The move comes after a federal high court ruling in June 2024 that ordered the final confiscation of the university, which was previously owned by a private individual.

After the court’s ruling, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed the federal government to take over the University of Knock and transform it into the Federal University of Applied Sciences. The initiative aims to promote development in southern Kaduna, a region facing setbacks due to insecurity.

Vice President Shettima spoke at an event attended by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and key stakeholders, saying the exchange was for the government’s commitment to inclusion and national progress. He believes President Tinob prioritizes the transformation of the university, which makes it the first item on the Federal Executive Committee agenda.

Shettima also acknowledged General Martin Luther Agway (RTD), Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, Justice Kumai Bayang Akaahs and Senator Marshall Sunday ( Sunday Marshall) contributes to making transition a reality. He assured that the university’s operational preparations are already underway and the institution is expected to recognize its first group of students by September 2025.

Governor Sani expressed his gratitude to President Tinob, describing the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences as a milestone for the Kaduna and Nigerian people. He stressed the government’s commitment to inclusion and peaceful coexistence in the state.

EFCC Chairman Olukayode stressed that the confiscated assets include academic buildings, water plants, international hotels and event centers. The transfer is consistent with the Federal Executive Committee resolution of February 4, 2025, making the agency’s new status under federal control formal.

Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa praised the university as a demonstration of the government’s dedication to expanding the development of human capital in Nigeria. He stressed that education, health and social welfare remained at the heart of President Tinob’s vision for national progress.

Defence Minister Christopher Musa described it as a big moment in Southern Kaduna, acknowledging the president’s commitment to the region. He stressed that the university will not only benefit Kaduna, but will also increase educational opportunities for Nigerians and contribute to long-term peace in the region.
