    Former Finance Minister announces warrant for corruption

      the country’s special prosecutor has declared corruption.

    • Ofori-Atta is accused of causing financial losses to the state in a high-profile government deal.

    • The former minister’s last pass has been voluntarily returned to jurisdiction by the Special Attorney’s Office.

    Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta was declared a fugitive by the country’s special prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng and charged with corruption.

    “You have two options: either voluntarily return to jurisdiction or the OSP will execute your return,” Agyebeng said.

    Ofori-Atta, who served in former President Nana Akufo-Addo, is allegedly authorized to release large amounts of state funds to build controversially in Acra National Cathedral Project.

    After the 2016 presidential election victory, Akufo-Addo conceived the cathedral to pay tribute to God and should be built with private money.

    However, allegations of the project have spent $58 million in public funds and filed allegations of financial violations have sparked a public uproar.

    The former minister was also accused of approving a $11.8 million payment at the request of the presidential chief of staff.

    Ofori-Atta showed no intention to return to Ghana to face justice, Agyebeng said.
