The Nigerian Labor Conference (NLC) will bring its members and Nigerians to boycott telecommunications services starting today on February 13, 2025 to protest the 50% tariff hike imposed by mobile network operators.
The boycott is expected to take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. every day until the end of February 2025.
NLC President Joe Ajaero and Secretary Emmanuel Ugboaja made the directive in a co-signed communiqué, noting that despite being with the federal government A deal was reached with the Nigerian Communications Commission, but the boycott was still a response to the implementation of tariff rate hikes. A 10-member committee was held on the matter for sufficient negotiations.

“The CWC has received serious news that telecom companies have begun implementing a 50% tariff rate hike, and despite an earlier agreement with the federal government and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the 50% tariff has begun today (Tuesday) Rate hikes.
“The CWC strongly condemns this action by the telecom company, portraying it as betrayal of trust, offense to the principles of negotiation, and direct filming of the government and its institutions, and disdain for the people of Nigeria.” A statement.
NLC describes telecom companies’ insistence on a 50% telecom tariff hike to prove “regulatory capture.”
The union demanded an immediate revocation of the tariff rate hike and insisted that the company resumed previous tariffs until the committee completed its consideration and reached a confirmed agreement.

“As the first step to resist this arbitrary tariff rate hike, the CWC began instructing Nigerian workers and other willing citizens to boycott MTN, Airtel and Glo Daily Naily from Thursday, February 13, 2025 to boycott services: 00 pm to 2025 At the end of February, 2019,” said NLC.
The Nigerian Communications Commission approved a 50% telecommunications tariff hike on January 20, 2025, which came into effect on Tuesday.
The NLC suspended its planned national protests on February 4, 2025, following an 11-hour meeting with the federal government.
