Mudashiru Obasa, impeachment spokesman for the Lagos State Capitol, has filed a lawsuit in the Lagos State High Court seeking immediate resumption of his position as speaker.
According to a court application obtained by the People’s Gazette, Obasa claimed that he was illegally removed from office on January 13, 2025.
The lawsuit, filed on February 14, 2025, lists the current spokesperson, Lasbat Mojisola Meranda and the Lagos State Capitol as defendants.
The legal action was followed by several political meetings between Lagos and Abuja to address the leadership crisis. Despite President Bola Tinubu’s instructions that Obasa was restored, the deadlock persisted, and lawmakers reportedly worried that an impeacher could retaliate if they return to the office.
In his lawsuit, Obasa challenged the constitutionality of the plenary session, which led to his impeachment and believed it was held illegally during the recess of the General Assembly without proper authorization.
The application states:The action challenged the sitting posture and litigation of the Lagos State Capitol to sit down during an adjournment without having to reconvene the house or empower anyone else to reconvene the house. ”
Mr. Obasa argued that the conference violated Articles 36, 90 (2) (c), 101 and 311 of the 1999 Constitution (amended) and violated the rules and regular orders of the Lagos State Capitol, especially is a command command, especially Rule 18 (2) and Order II Rule 9 (I-VIII).

Frustrated by the delay in restoring Obasa, Tinubu recently rejected a meeting with members of the Governance Advisory Committee (GAC) of Lagos APC, accusing them of violating his instructions.
However, opposition within the party remains strong. GAC member Muraina Akanbi Taiwan rejected the push to restore Obasa to its original state:The move to restore Mr. Obasa will be rejected. Mr. Tinubu is not the God of the nation. ”
