PDP South suspended regional secretary Omemu for misconduct.
Nigeria News Nalin It has been reported that the South-South Regional Executive Committee of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended its regional secretary Felix Omemu for a month due to alleged misconduct and unauthorized media reports .
Omemu earlier declared the South-South ZEC meeting in Benin, Edo Prefecture illegal. In a statement in Yenagoa, Bayersa State, he argued that the meeting convened by South-South Vice Chairman Dan Orbih was unconstitutional because it lacked the approval of the regional working committee.
Stop exercise and discipline
At the ZEC meeting in Benin, Martin Amaewhule, a faction spokesman for the Rivers State Capitol, filed a motion for Omemu to suspend.
The motion was seconded by Hon. Godwin Itiono, a member of the House of Representatives Ogoja/Yala constituency.
Amaewhule said, “Chief Felix Omemu has been suspended and a disciplinary committee has been formed to investigate him. Omemu’s actions are illegal, trying to lead to disunity and dissuad members from attending the South-South ZEC meeting in Benin .”
After the suspension, George Turnah, a regional legal counsel for PDP, was appointed acting Zonal secretary.
Orbih praises ZEC decision
Dan Orbih praised the ZEC for taking the pause, describing it as a necessary step to reposition and maintain solidarity.
“This move is intended to curb the surplus of leaders and members seeking to undermine the harmony of the party.” Obi said.
In addition to Akwa Ibom State, the regional chairperson, senators and members of the House attended the meeting.
