    • The Lagos State Chapter of the National Nigerian Student Joint Campus Commission vows to conduct a massive protest at the headquarters of MTN in Nigeria to carry out the latest data tariff rate hike.

    • Despite initial announcements to do so, students accuse MTN of failing to completely reverse the hike.

    • Nans described the move as an “attack on students and Nigerians”, warning that it worsened the digital divide and made education more difficult.

The Lagos State Chapter of the National Joint Student Campus Commission of Nigeria vows to conduct a massive protest at the headquarters of MTN in Nigeria, accusing the telecom giant of failing to completely revoke its recent data tariff rate hike.

In a statement signed by its chairman Abdul-Raheem Abdul-Quadri and public relations officer Ridwan Ajayi, Nancy JCC Lagos condemned MTN’s reversal claim, calling it a “deceptive response to our request.”

“Instead of reverse hiking, MTN canceled the 15GB weekly bundle and replaced the 7GB bundle with a 7GB bundle, less than half the amount of original data, at a higher cost! This is not a relief, nor is it Reversal. This is a further exploitation of students and Nigerians, disguised as adjustments.” The students sighed.

NANS JCC Lagos released a 72-hour final atum announced a massive protest at MTN headquarters and will announce further details later.

“We refuse to be silent! If MTN and NCC refuse to take action, we will continue to mobilize on campus and on the streets until we hear our voices.”

When Punch Metro contacted Funso Aina MTN’s senior external relations manager on Sunday, he said the program had been discontinued.

“The relevant program has been stopped. Our service bouquet is no longer available. Customers can choose from several other options, all within the approved framework,” Aina said.
