Vatican cancels Pope Francis’ weekend event as he spends his fifth day in the hospital

The Vatican has canceled Pope Francis’ weekend event as he spent his fifth day in the hospital after a respiratory infection. The 88-year-old was admitted to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital last Friday with bronchitis, but the Holy See said on Monday that his treatment is being changed to deal with “complex” clinical situations. The Vatican now announced that Saturday’s audience will be cancelled, with the pope entrusting the crowd to another pastor on Sunday morning. However, the Vatican did not mention Angelus’ prayers, which the pope usually performed at noon Sunday, but he missed it last weekend. But Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni told reporters at lunch time Tuesday that the Argentinian continued with elements of his usual daily activities. He said. Mr Bruni added that medical updates will take place in the evening. Since 2013, Francis, the head of the Catholic Church, has been taken to the hospital after struggling for several days to read his text in public. On Tuesday morning, pilgrims and tourists gathered in St. Peter’s Square, many saying they were praying for the pope’s recovery. “I hope he will get better soon,” Birgit Jungreuthmayer, 48, an Austrian tourist, told AFP. “I believe in medical treatment for general practitioners in the hospital and hope they can do their best.” The Vatican said on Monday that the tests have confirmed that “most bacterial infections in the respiratory tract cause further changes in treatment.” “All tests so far have shown complex clinical conditions that require adequate hospitalization,” it said. In the latest news on Monday night, it said the Pope’s condition has not changed. “The Father has no fever and is receiving the prescribed treatment.” It added: “Pope Francis was moved by the many feelings and intimacy he continued to receive.” The Vatican Post canceled Pope Francis’s Weekend event, as he spent the company of the fifth academician for the first time appearing on Linda Ikeji’s blog.
