The United States has begun deportation procedures for Nigerian nationals, with 85 people coming to Lagos, while another 116 remain in custody.
“About 201 Nigerians are currently detained in U.S. immigration centers, and about 85 are deported,” Odumegwu-Ojukwu revealed in a statement signed on Sunday, her media aide Magnus Eze.
Similarly, she reiterated the government’s position in a post on Monday’s official X account titled “U.S. Deportation.”
Lagos as the only deportation destination
The United States also confirmed that the deported Nigerians will fly directly to Lagos.
Mills stressed that individuals serving sentences in the United States will be one of the first group of people to be deported.
“The persons who are deported will be placed in Lagos. Whether there should be room in Harcourt port or Abuja port.
“The first group of prisoners will be convicted – those who commit crimes and are in prisons in U.S. Some of them are those who are clearly violating U.S. immigration laws.
