Benue Parliamentary Crisis Intensifies As 13 members have been suspended for opposing the removal of Chief Justice

Benu State Capitol has suspended 13 members, who are disconnected from state chief judge Maurice Ikpambase.

The lawmakers met after Tuesday’s plenary meeting to openly depart the decision, describing it as unconstitutional and a violation of the principles of separation power and fair hearing.

In an emergency plenary meeting on Wednesday, February 19, the House imposed a three-month moratorium on 13 members, citing that their actions were inseparable and could cause irritation in parliament.

Spokesman Hyacinth said some of the suspended members voted for the chief judge’s removal, but later denied a press conference, denying their support for the motion.

The suspended legislators include Douglas Agbidee (Mordi South), Jonathan Agbidee (Kattsina-ala East), Beckie Orpin (Gboko East), Simon Gaboo-Mata), Williams Ortyom (Agasha ) (Agasha), Onah Blessed (Oju 1), Elias Aududo (Oju 1) Get Eastward), Art Mato (Words (Taraches), Solomon Gy West, Samuel Aga Samuel Agada (Ogamado), Abraham King and Ezra Nynavenous (um was).

Majority Leader Saater Tiseer recalled that the House had received a petition from the Attorney General accusing Justice Ikepenbas of grave misconduct, abuse of the office, bribery and corruption.

After deliberation, the House voted, with 23 of the 31 members supporting the removal of the Chief Justice. However, after the resolution was passed, 13 suspended members withdrew their position and publicly disbanded themselves.

Tiseer argued that their actions contradicted the regular rules of the house and described it as a deceptive gesture designed to exert disgust in parliament. So he moved for three months, which was a motion for the maintenance of the house.
