    • NCS logistical issues have led to many criminals awaiting trial holding detention outside of regular stays.

    • The lack of functional tools to transport detainees to court is a major challenge.

    • Some prisons rely on a vehicle to communicate hundreds of prisoners to multiple courts.

Correctional services in Nigeria are facing a logistical crisis, causing many criminals to stay longer than expected.

According to stakeholders, the department’s inability to provide effective transportation to communicate detainees to the court is a major challenge.

Sources at Ilesa Medium Security Hosting Center, lamenting, saying: “The status quo of Ilesa prison is frustrating. All operating vehicles are rooted and cannot be repaired.”

Human rights advocate Lola Wey called on the federal government to investigate logistics at detention facilities and repair damaged vehicles.

Wey questioned why detainees had to wait for trial when the annual budget allocated large amounts of transport.
