One student was identified as D3AD, while several others were injured differently after the collapse of the Government Women’s Science and Technology College in Potiskum, Yobe State.
The incident occurred at 12 noon on Thursday, February 20, 2025, leaving students trapped under the ruins.
SS1 students are said to have a lunch break before the collapse.
Emergency responders and school officials acted quickly to rush the victim to Potiskum, a professional hospital, for medical care.
Bukar Aji, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, said introductory news that the injured student was receiving medication at a professional hospital in Portscomb.
He further explained that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development had been contacted to investigate the root cause of the incident and report it.
While sympathizing with the families of deceased students and injured students, the Permanent Secretary assured them that the Government will always proactively maintain all its structures to prevent further occurrences.
