Former Spanish FA President Luis Rubiales was found guilty of a kiss from Jenni Hermoso for sexual assault.
Spanish High Court ruled on Thursday that former football federation president Luis Rubiales committed sexual assault without her consent .
The court sentenced a fine of more than 10,000 euros ($10,434) but the coercion charges have been cleared.
Initially, prosecutors have caused a widespread discussion of sexism in women’s football in Spain, and therefore initially urged to imprisonment.
The court announced in a statement:The ruling prohibits Rubiales from approaching Hermoso’s 200 meters (656 feet) or communicating with her for a year. ”
The 47-year-old was charged with sexual assault after kissing Hermoso at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Awards ceremony in Sydney in 2023.
Additionally, Rubiales and three former football federation officials have been accused of trying to put pressure on Hermoso to show that the kiss is consistent.
After the controversy, Rubiales resigned three weeks later, followed by a three-year ban by FIFA.
Hermoso has always insisted that she didn’t agree, while Rubiales insisted that the kiss was mutual and denied any misconduct.
