A Florida woman was arrested after shooting a female passenger who had been riding on a bike shortly after her ex-boyfriend broke up.
Latorray Collins, 38, was detained on Sunday, February 16 with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, and she remained there as of Thursday, February 20.
According to inmates’ records, Collins was charged with second-degree murder.
The Miami Herald quoted an affidavit from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, and reported that Collins’ ex-boyfriend told police that he had broken up with her a few days ago.
Collins’ ex-boyfriend told authorities that he had a close relationship with the married victim, according to First Coast News.
Family members identified 42-year-old Latasha Taylor as the victim.
The day of the incident, Collins allegedly called her ex and repeatedly texted his phone to pick up his stuff from the house, but he instructed her to throw them away.
The ex-boyfriend allegedly drove Taylor’s car when Collins called him again on Saturday, February 15. He reportedly stopped at a liquor store with Taylor and some of her family before reaching another location.
Collins reportedly caught up with her ex with a red light and pulled the vehicle in front of Taylor as the group drove in a separate car.
According to the Herald, she was able to catch up again by driving around Collins’ car in Collins’s car, according to the Herald. Another light of theirs.
Collins allegedly left her vehicle and began knocking on Taylor’s window, prompting Taylor to ask Collins who she was. Then there was a verbal confrontation.
Collins’s ex told police he heard “a loud noise” before Taylor fell. The .380 caliber shell was recycled from the site.
The victim’s husband, Tony Taylor, also spoke with Action News Jax, saying the couple is ready to celebrate their 15th anniversary together before Latasha was shot.
“She met me when I went through a tough time in my life. She showed me how much she cared for people. I was at the bottom of the rock and she saved my life,” Tony said in an interview.
“The shooter is arguing with the male in the car. My wife goes out and tries to spread the situation and then leaves, and that’s when the girl shoots her,” Tony continues.
Latasha’s family said she is making progress.
“She shouldn’t have done that on Saturday’s game, but she’s still sticking with it for us,” Tony told the news station.
Collins is awaiting trial and will be held in Duval County Court on March 11.
