Police have ordered the immediate suspension of the OSUN LG election scheduled for Saturday.
Nigeria News Nalin The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) reportedly called for an immediate suspension of local government elections in Osan State.
Police issued an order in a statement signed by spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi on Friday night.
The election is scheduled to be held on Saturday, February 22 in the state in 30 LGAs and 323 wards.
According to the intelligence report, various groups, including political actors, plan to cause unrest in elections, undermine public peace and understand the stability of the country.
The NPF warns that polling under these conditions can lead to widespread violence that puts life and property at risk.
While security agencies are on high alert and ready to respond, police believe that suspending the election is the best way to prevent conflict and maintain order.
According to the police, in addition to security issues, legal issues were raised.
The federal attorney general clarified that the Court of Appeal ruled on February 10, 2025, overturning an earlier federal high court ruling.
In view of security and legal issues, the NPF has urged the Osun State government to stop the election immediately.
The police reiterated their commitment to protecting lives, maintaining law and order, and ensuring the democratic process.
Political parties and stakeholders are also recommended to act responsibly and prioritize public safety.
