We have not arrested anyone who criticizes the government, IGP or police. We arrested only those who peddled fake news - police professional, Muyiwa Adejobi

ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, spokesman for the Nigerian Police Force, denied claims that the police are using the 2024 CyberCrime Act to specific Witchhaunt-specific personnel in the country.

In a video shared online on Saturday, February 22, Adejobi said that contrary to the opinion, police have not arrested anyone who criticized the government, police IGP Inspector General IGP or police officers in general. He said police arrested and prosecuted those who peddled fake news, misinformation and damaging people’s personalities.

”Spreading false information, failure, distortion of facts, etc. is a criminal offence. No matter what you want to do, it prints online, or you are printing it, make sure you verify and get the exact facts of any issues you want to discuss.

As a content creator, blogger or journalist publishing or publishing online, you must make sure to verify your story and possibly balance the story before peddling fake online.

I want to record in the case of record, the Nigerian Police Force is not hunting anyone with or using Cybercrime Act 2024 or using AMMMEDEND. We have no charges or arrests of anyone criticizing the government, IGP or police. No! Go check the records.

In fact, we arrest and prosecute those who are there tout false, false news, false information, misinformation causes problems, discredit individuals, institutions, causes damage and kill people’s personalities.

Don’t spread fake news! Don’t spread falsehood. Do not engage in misinformation or false information. There is a criminal offense”
