    24-year-old Thai woman arrested at Lagos airport for smuggling illegal drugs

    Agents from the National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested the Thai state of Murtara Mohamed International Airport in Lagos, Pattaphi Wimonnat attempted to smuggle illegal drugs into Nigeria.

    The 24-year-old suspect was arrested Thursday, February 20 after NDLEA officials intercepted her luggage containing 43 Canadian loud packages, an effective synthetic cannabis strain totaling 46.60 kilograms.

    NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemiconfirmed the arrest in a statement issued Sunday, revealing that Wimonnat’s attempts were foiled as officials discovered illegal goods hidden in the box.

    “The suspect who admitted to being a hiring drug trafficker was arrested on Thursday, February 20, 2025 in a passenger at Qatar Airways, passing through Thailand, and passing through Terminal 2 of Lagos Airport ( Doha, passengers in Qatar. She said the drug cartel that recruited her promised to pay her $3,000 after successfully delivering illegal drug goods in Nigeria,” reads part of the statement.

    Babuffimi also revealed that the next day, Friday, February 21, NDLEA agents foiled another attempt to smuggle.

    A drug cartel attempted to transport 68 Ghana packages weighing 42.2 kg to London, England by hiding them in the walls of crates at the airport exit shed.

    “Three suspects: a freight forwarder and two dispatch drivers were initially arrested for seizures, which was quickly traced back to his arrest before shipment planner Samuel Bitris, in La Exodus Hotel in Ajah, Gos, where he was arrested, where he was arrested, where he was arrested, where he was arrested,Babuffimi said.
