
Edo State Police Command has arrested a Kelvin Izekor for his 38-year-old wife, Izekor.
The incident happened in Benin City’s upper mission expansion On Saturday, February 22, 2025.
An anonymous resident said the couple had recently been married.
“I can’t believe what I’m seeing. I think it’s your own husband. They’re newlyweds and no one would expect women to suffer such a fate.”
Graphic videos seen on social media show police and residents taking the deceased from her apartment to a police van with machetes overhead and their heads.
Moses Yamu, spokesman for the Edo State Police Commander, confirmed the incident in a statement Sunday, saying her husband will be lynched by an angry mob before police arrived, appeased the crowd and arrested him.
“On February 22, 2025, at about 22:00 hours, Kelvin Izekor, who was received by a No. 50 boss in Benin, killed his wife, the successful Izekor. Issceel, 38, is about to be lynched and angry mob.
“Agents from the Aduwa Division responded quickly to the report and found the woman’s lifeless body lying in her blood, with a deep cut on her head.
“The police have made great efforts to appease the mob, rescue the suspect and detain him. The victim was taken to a hospital where he was identified as D3AD.”
State Police Chief Betty Otimeenyin condemned the recent increase in domestic violence cases and ensured a thorough investigation into the woman’s death, the statement said.
Yamu stressed that those who find criminals will be prosecuted under the law.
