The court ordered the resumption of the fired Lagos parliament clerk Olalekan Onafeko.

Nigeria News Nalin The National Industrial Court, sitting in Lagos, ordered the restoration of Olalekan Onafeko as clerk of the Lagos state capitol, revoked in the recent leadership crisis of the state legislature His dismissal.

Judge Mn Esowe approved the Ex Parte application filed by Onafeko through his attorney Yusuf Nurudeen, directing his replacement, Babatunde Ottun, to stop driving in the secretary immediately until there is a determination to have substantial litigation.

Tagged as NICN/LA/23/2025, the lawsuit lists Lagos State Government, Lagos State Civil Service Commission, Lagos State Capitol Committee Committee, House Speaker, Lagos State Attorney and Babaddonde Ottun is the defendant.

    Political Crisis and Leadership Level

Onafeko in 2025, following a dramatic strike by former spokesman Mudashiru Obasa and the election of Mojisola Meranda as new spokesperson He was dismissed on January 13.

Obasa’s dismissal sparked controversy over the Lagos State Capitol and the Rule of All Progressive Congress (APC), leading to changes in key administrative positions, including replacing Onafeko with Babatunde Ottun.

In his lawsuit, Onafeko challenged his removal, believing it was politically motivated and unconstitutional. He also sought a temporary injunction to limit the defendant’s recognition of anyone, including Altern, as clerks, until he heard a motion for the intermediate injunction.

Justice Esowe ruled to support Anafeko and ordered the status quo (the situation before the crisis).

“The parties shall maintain peace and status quo until the motion is heard and determined.” The judge said in the ruling.

The court also stressed that Altern had to stop performing the duties of the clerk, effectively canceling his appointment.

The case is scheduled for March 3, 2024 to hear the motion to hear the notice.
