Nigerian Foreign Minister Maitama Tuggar said it would be inappropriate for the G20 to have only one African country as a member when the continent remains the subject of global discussion.

Naija News There are reports that Tugega said Nigeria should be accepted as G20Just like South Africa, considering the importance of the country on the African continent.

In an interview with the News Center, the minister noted that Europe and Latin America have more than one country in the G20.

The Nigerian minister explained that membership in South Africa and the African Union should not be a reason to downplay Nigeria.

He added that while South Africa’s economy has been the highest economy on the continent, the Nigerian government has been reforming the country’s economy to gain a foothold in Africa.

His words:We are reconsidering or recalculating our economy without taking any measures from South Africa, but we will once again be the largest economy on the continent. So South Africa needs a G20 partner and just saying that the African Union is a continental institution is not enough, because don’t forget that the European Union is part of the G20, but Germany is a member. France is a member. Italy is a member.

“If you go to Latin America or South America, Latin America, I would say, you have Argentina, you have Mexico. So they are members, but why are only one country in Africa and then the next entry will be the African Union? We need More than one country. Most of all these continents except Australia are actually dominated by one country. You might say New Zealand is there, but it makes sense if Australia is the only country representing its continent.

“But when it comes to Africa, 55 countries, that’s not good enough, it’s unfair, especially when it comes to the African theme that is being discussed throughout the planet.”
