Man shoots in Ogun's competition amid suspicious competition cult attack

A 34-year-old man reportedly had a cult attack from his rival in the Oluwo area of the Oluwo Adigbe in the capital of Abeokuta. The victim was identified as Abdulazeez Olatunji Ojoro and was shot dead at 10:10 pm on Sunday, February 24, 2025.

The preliminary investigation conducted by the police was attributed to the de@th of the late Abdulazeez, who was suspected of being involved in illegal drug business in the area.

“After receiving a distress call about the shooting, Adiger’s Department Police (DPO) quickly deployed the detective team to the scene,” the Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Omolola Odutola, said in a press release.

According to the statement, the detective arrived at the scene and found the deceased in his own pool of blood.

“A closer examination showed that he suffered a fatal gunshot wound on his left eye and right chest, indicating that he was shooting at close range.”

The attacker is said to be suspected of being a member of a rival cult, and is said to have fled the scene before police arrived.

Meanwhile, the dead bodies of the late Abdulazeez have been stored in the morgue, while ongoing patrols in the area have been strengthened to prevent further violence and track down those responsible.

Ogun State Police Command reiterated its zero tolerance stance on cults and illegal drug activities while condemning the violence.

It further advised those involved in cult activities to condemn their membership, noting that law enforcement agencies remain committed to eliminating cult-related violence and crime in the state.

“The public is urged to provide useful information to help police arrest the culprit. The statement concluded that further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
