Nigerian singer Abdulazeez Fashola spoke out Nigeria’s Naira Marley after a court ruling that cleared him and others of the tragic death of musician musician Ilerioluwa oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad.
On February 25, 2025, Naira Marley was found guilty in the case of Mohbad, along with socialites Sam Larry, Singer Prime Boy and others, after months of speculation and legal battles. In a heartfelt message, Naira Marley admits that he and his team Marlians were not perfect and made mistakes. However, he stressed that these mistakes were never intentional and were part of their growth and adaptation process.
The singer revealed that he achieved peace with Mobad before his death. He added that they knew each other about noise and misunderstandings. Nevertheless, Naira Marley expressed his pain and disappointment, and those who knew the truth still pointed at Mohbad after his death.
Naira Marley questioned why people had to wait until Mohbad died to reveal the truth, rather than shouting out from the beginning. He stressed that if people told the truth from the outset, Moubad would receive the rest of his due. Moreover, his family will find the closure.
The singer also reflected on the challenges he faced during the prosecution, including being sentenced to jail and facing the justice system. Despite the possibility for him, Naira Marley chose to stay and face the people rather than run. He thanked God and pointed out that despite his breaking, he was not destroyed.
“You never thought I would survive. You never thought I would go over the fire and face my people. Maybe you wish I could stay fugitive. You thought I would run. Instead, I stood in front of the justice system, spent my time in prison and faced everything head-on as you change stories time and time again.” He said.
But Naira Marley prays that when the truth finally surfaces, people’s hearts will be enough to endure it.
“But God sees everything. The truth will not shake. The lie will disappear and time will reveal everything. I am broken, but not destroyed. When the truth finally speaks, I pray that your heart is strong enough to bear.” he wrote.
Naira Marley’s statement sparked discussions among fans and industry stakeholders. Many question how the controversy over Mohbad’s death fell into the charge. Although the court has cleared any misconduct, the case remains a painful chapter in the Nigerian music industry.
