    Despite political resolutions, Obasa’s lawyers insist on filing a court case

    • Mudashiru Obasa, legal team at the Lagos State Capitol, said there was no plan to withdraw the lawsuit to challenge his removal as speaker.

    • Obasa’s chief legal counsel, Afolabi Fashanu (SAN), said he is ready for a court hearing defined on February 28.

    • Fashanu also explained that Obasa did not intend to return to the conference until she obtained a court judgment.

    Mudashiru Obasa, legal team at the Lagos State Capitol, said there was no plan to withdraw the lawsuit to challenge his removal as speaker.

    Obasa’s chief legal counsel, Afolabi Fashanu (SAN), said he prepared for a February 28 court hearing despite a political settlement of the congress crisis.

    “Our clients have not communicated anything to us in their exit nature. So we are still preparing for the case until otherwise,” Fashanu said.

    He also explained that Obasa did not intend to return to the General Assembly until he obtained a judgment from the court, as it would be illegal to return to the ruling before that matter. “I don’t believe he wants to take any illegal steps,” Fashanu said.

    The crisis in the Lagos parliament began on January 13, 2025, with most members ousting Obasa as speaker.

    Obasa, who left in the United States at the time, refused his removal on the grounds that he was breaking the law as lawmakers approached.

    He then dragged new spokesman Mojisola Meranda and the conference to the state high court in Ikeja for remedies.

    Former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai praised former presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar for his role in implementing economic policies under former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

    El-Rufai said Atiku deserves praise for overseeing economic policies, but is often overlooked.
