Former Speaker of the Lagos State Capitol, Mudashiru Obasa, has apologized to the National Services Agency (DSS) and the Nigerian Police Force and argued at the Lagos Parliament Complex on February 17, 2025.

In a statement issued on Thursday, February 27, Obasa described the attack on security agents as “very regretful”, adding that the incident would never happen.

Naija News The apology was reportedly seen hours after Obasa returned to the Lagos Parliamentary Complex, where he announced his spokesperson despite opposition from most lawmakers.

Obasa was removed from office in January, and he had earlier held a controversial plenary meeting with a handful of lawmakers present.

The statement reads, “On behalf of the Lagos State Capitol, I hereby apologize to the security agencies for the embarrassment, especially the attack on DSS security agents, which is widely circulated in the video.

“We value you and the work you are doing. We are the ones we call for when we need to protect the lives and property in and around the General Assembly and the State of Lagos. Obviously, the General Assembly requires additional support and your presence on this day.

“That’s what we’ve been doing in the past. It’s a pity that the security agents of DSS must be beaten in the temple of our state assembly. I’m here to apologize without reservation on behalf of the entire rally.

“The Lagos Parliament and security personnel have always enjoyed a cordial and respectful relationship and we have been calling on you when it is necessary to maintain law and order. We hope this incident will not harm the good relationship we have built and enjoyed over the years.

“We defend on behalf of those accused of going to court and look forward to a friendly settlement of the matter to promote our continued partnership to achieve peace in our dear country and throughout the country.”
