U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday evening, February 27 that talks with Russia and Ukraine on a peace agreement are very advanced, which commended Russia’s actions in the ongoing talks.
Trump made the statement during a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer of the White House.
Starmer urged the United States to provide security support to any European force that was in a potential peacekeeping role in Ukraine at the end of peace talks, which Trump has been pushing since taking office last month.
Trump sat next to Starmer in the Oval Office and said he believed the peace agreement with Russia would be held and said he did not think Putin would invade Ukraine again.
He added that he would not disclose details of the peacekeeping until the agreement was reached.
“I think Russia is acting very well. …I think we’ve made progress on this deal, but we haven’t reached a deal yet,” Trump said.
