A devastating outbreak claimed that at least two lives were found in the Internal Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in the Kundaga Local Government Area of Borno State, leaving several other injured and displaced families who have lost their homes to the rebellion.
According to the gathering, the fire began at 11:25 am on Friday, February 28, 2025, and quickly spread across crowded settlements, consuming temporary shelters and personal belongings.
Security personnel, including troops stationed in Kundo, respond immediately and work with emergency responders and community members to control the hell
Despite efforts to curb the flames, the report shows that fires were still raging as of press time and deaths were concerned about a rise.
Forces deployed in operation Hadin Kai in Konduga have played a crucial role in assisting emergency personnel and evacuating victims.
“The military provided immediate support to mobilize personnel and equipment to curb the fires while ensuring the safety of affected families,” a security source said.
Borno State Fire Department, Nigerian military and humanitarian agencies are working around the clock to control the situation.
The emergency medical team also deployed treatment for injured people.
Despite the difficulties, community leaders and internally displaced persons appreciated the rapid intervention of military and other agencies.
Bulama (community leader) noted that Konduga’s security forces continue to provide vital support not only in response to the crisis, but also in ensuring a safe environment for displaced people.
“We thank them for their assistance. It could be worse without rapid intervention from the military,” he said.
As the dry season intensifies, authorities urged IDP to take additional precautions to prevent further outbreaks.
The Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) is coordinating relief efforts, while the security agency guarantees continued support to protect lives and property.
