The Russian Foreign Ministry said that on Friday, February 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s trip to Washington was a political and diplomatic failure, showing that he was addicted to continuing the war.
Zelenskiy and U.S. President Donald Trump clashed at a White House meeting on Friday, which damaged Kiev’s relationship with the United States’ major U.S. military supporter.
“The February 28 visit to Washington was a complete political and diplomatic failure,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Maria Zakharova said in a written statement on the ministry’s website on Saturday.
According to her, Zelensky’s behavior at the White House was outrageous, adding that the Ukrainian president was an undisguised cynic who had a main goal of maintaining power.
“For this, he destroyed the opposition, established totalitarian states, and sent millions of citizens to die ruthlessly,” Zakharova added.
Zelenskiy saw the meeting as an opportunity to convince the United States not to stand with Russian President Vladimir Putin and openly challenged Trump to his gentle approach to Russian leaders.
