Ogun State Police Command has arrested Opeyemi Adetoro, a 28-year-old woman, for trafficking three girls from the Oke Itokuta area of Abeokuta to Libya.
State Police Command spokesman, Police Principal Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, March 3, 2025, saying the suspect was arrested after the mother of a trafficked victim reported to the police to police that the mother was taken to Libya without her consent.
“On March 2, 2025, at about 6:40 pm, Kehinde Somroin visited the police station and reported an unsettling incident. She said that just 40 minutes ago, at 6:00 pm, she received amazing information from her neighbor Latifat, who told her that Opeyemi Adetoro, 28, brought Somroin’s 17-year-old daughter Ifeoluwa to Libya without her consent.”
During the trial, the suspects admitted to transporting the children from Ogun State to Akur, Uto State, from where they boarded the bus to Sokoto State, where an agent was waiting to smuggle them to Libya.
“After receiving the report, the case was immediately referred to the surveillance team for further investigation. The trial showed that on March 1, 2025, Opeyemi Adetoro took three children – 17-year-old Somroin Ifeoluwa, 16-year-old Ameerah Bamgboye and another girl identified as only Okikiola – from Ogun State to Ogun State, to Akure to Akure to Akure to Akure. From there, they boarded another vehicle to Sokoto State, where a broker was waiting to smuggle them to Libya.”
Odutola further revealed that the case has been transferred to the state criminal investigation department for further investigation.
“The driver’s identity is still unknown and the children were taken away without their parents’ consent. They are currently the route to Sokoto State and end up staying in Libya. The case has been transferred to the state’s Criminal Investigation Department Eleweran for further investigation.”
