Portuguesa president Alex Bourgeois expressed his hope to convince al-Nassr superstar Cristiano Ronaldo to join the Brazilian club.
Paulista A1 is making bold moves to attract high-profile European players, having previously tried to sign Radamel Falcao and Nani.
Talk to CNN (via TalkSport), the bourgeoisie explained: “Strengthening and rescuing the pride of the Brazilian Portuguese community, yes, that’s it (trying to sign Nani).
“We are behind and we will try Paulistão 2026 to introduce a great Portuguese language.
“He is the greatest Portuguese ever, he is the greatest personality in the world today.
“It would be great, but I can imagine how many people don’t offer anything related to Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo, right?
“But it’s obvious that he’s a great Portuguese and obviously at some point we’re going to have to try to talk.”
“What we need is part of our strategic plan to build a bridge between Brazil and Portugal through Portuguesa to make Portuguesa the channel.
“We have made some progress in this direction. We think that this will bring many people in many communities closer to us.
“There are a lot of things in Portugal besides Portugal football, and Brazilians go there, whether it is for wine, food, religion, beaches, etc.
“So what we want is to bring all of this to the closest places in Brazil to create this bridge,” he added.
Ronaldo, 40, is about to end his contract with al-NASSR and is free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement.
But speculation suggests that he may want to extend his accommodation in the Middle East, as a new deal worth 183 million euros per year may cement his position as the world’s highest-paid footballer.
