FIFA will bring historic changes to the 2026 World Cup by adding a half-time show to the NFL Super Bowl model. Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Phil Harvey are tasked with curating a series of artists for their first-ever halftime performance at the world’s largest sporting event.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed the news at a news event in Dallas, where he outlined plans for the match to be held in North America.
“I can confirm my first half-time show ever in the FIFA World Cup final in New Jersey, working with citizens around the world. It will be a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup and a performance suitable for the world’s largest sporting event.”
In partnership with the NFL with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation as a collaboration for the Super Bowl halftime show, FIFA will work with Martin and Harvey for a list of potential performances for the World Cup finals, which will be held on July 19, 2026.
It is not clear whether Coldplay will be part of the show. Typically, football halftime break lasts about 15 minutes, but FIFA may extend the halftime break to accommodate super performances, as seen in the Super Bowl.
With Coldplay’s history of providing a lot of live performances, the entertainment spectacle that people have become a breakthrough in the World Cup final has been established.
